Hello everyone!

I currently live in Michigan. I plan on moving out of this state by spring 2016.

I will be visiting either WV or VA in October(only have time for one of them, hehe)

I have been browsing the web on West Virginia(Huntington 'suburbs', WV) for a few weeks, and Virginia(Harrisonburg, Staunton) for a few days.

Seems like most homes in Virginia have basements and most homes in West Virginia DON'T.(my home has to have a basement). From the research done, West Virginia sounds more laid back, clean and safe.

Keywords 'clean' and 'safe', that is what I'm looking for in a town(suburb perhaps).

Can anyone give me any information on Harrisonburg and Staunton(your choice between the two?), and safer areas in the two towns?!(Also I read that there's no highspeed internet in Harrisonburg?)

Thank you all in advance.

There is high speed internet in Harrisonburg ---- I don't see how there couldn't be high speed there. You've got both James Madison University and Eastern Mennonite University in Harrisonburg. I would pick Harrisonburg over Staunton. I lived in Pleasant Valley for 6 years and would move back to the area in a heartbeat. I could walk to the city line (Harrisonburg) from where I lived.

Staunton is nice too, but the influence of JMU in particular is good IMO. Mary Baldwin College is in Staunton. I like both towns, but would take Harrisonburg over Staunton.

Good luck!

WV is more laid back, but I find VA more clean with WV being a state that has been built on industry and coal. Especially the charleston area. Safety is a wash depending on what areas you compare.

Thanks much for the replies everyone! I think I'll pay a visit to Harrisonburg, VA late fall of this year.

Which side/area is safer in Harrisonburg, VA? North, South, East or West?
