Smile I wish someone would answer this one.

Hi there, My family and I drove through Martinsburg about ten years ago... We are talking about southern VA, are we not? If so, I thought it was picturesque, yet I wondered where anyone would work??? It was very quaint. I think I am recalling this correctly. I am also very curious about this part of beautiful Virginia!! I hope someone replies to you. Good Luck

Default Martinsville/bassett

I live in NC about 40 miles south of there. If you're looking for "progressive" and a lot of culture and arts, you should look elsewhere. Martinsville is an extremely blue-collar area and it doesn't have a vibrant economy.

JAS, What if you were looking for country, safe, inexpensive, acreage... ?
I see that it is an hour south of Roanoke. If one had employment and was willing to travel for excitement... How would it rate then? Thanks?

Default martinsville

The town of Martinsville itself isn't very picturesque - it is a very industrial town. There is certainly some pretty land "out in the country", but I would rather live closer to Roanoke if I had the choice.
