We have been searching for that ideal place for retirement for a few months and narrowing our scope as we continue to visit and refine our wants/needs.

Cross Junction just popped up on our radar as a good possible area for our next VA research visit. Thanks for the CD forum! Digging deeper it looks as if most of the homes we are seeing on Realtor.COM that seem to be in our desired specification are in the Lake Holiday POA/HOA. An online search indicates there either was or is a lot of dissatisfaction surrounding the POA and how it is run. Their own website, of course, says everything is peaches and cream! The info found on the web is few years (or more) old, so I don't know if that is the current situation.

I'd appreciate any input, either on the forum or direct, concerning how it is today.

Thanks!
Jack

One thing I failed to mention in your NOVA posting. Don't just show up hoping to look around as security won't let you in without an appointment. The wife and I found out the hard way.

Thanks, Bigfoot. At this point it sounds as if there is no reason to show up there at all!

It did appear to be a nice community from what we could see and we have a friend who almost bought there and they really liked it. It's off the beaten path but close enough to a road that leads easily back into Winchester. Might be worth checking out if the past issues have truly been resolved.

We looked at it many years ago but settled on a place in Basye, VA near Bryce Resort. Just too many questions about Lake Holiday. There were major concerns with the dam and talks about very expensive assessments for the homeowners. I don't know if that issue ever got resolved. There were also minor property crimes occurring in the gated community. It has a lot to offer but there were too many red flags for us. They used to have their HOA monthly meeting minutes online so you could check there for recent happenings.

Thank you, Sir. Nobody from Cross Junction is replying and all I have heard from those who considered moving there is less than stellar. I guess it was too good to be true (-;

We actually looked into buying and moving there but quickly decided No simply because of the much higher costs and basically not retirement friendly from a financial stand point.
If you are still looking there are several home outside of thr lake holiday community for sale you should chk out.

I honestly forgot all about that thread as well as Lake Holiday.

My wife and I ended up in southeastern North Carolina as our retirement spot. The ocean and beach were calling to us!

Better decision. The shore in the Carolinas is awesome.
