hi,
i have a kansas city driving license,THIS IS MY FIRST OFFENCE last week i was heading towards tennessee and i was pulled over at AUGUSTA, VIRGINIA for speeding at 80 in a 70 zone .Cop issued me a ticket and said it would effect 4 points on my driving record . Are there any chances that i could plea for no point ticket or do i have any other options .

1. Should i pay the ticket and have 4 points on my record?
2. Or should i attend the court and make a try attending the court?
3. If i attend the court , what are the best possibilities that i could end up with?

Thanks for all your advices in advance

You could take a chance getting your speedometer calibrated and see if it's off in your favor. If so you might get a defective equipment reduction. Officer actually did you a favor by not writing you for Reckless Driving which would have been worse. I don't like parts of the RD code section but until the legislators change it is what it is. Or you can go to court and ask for a reduction to 1-9 which in reality does little for you. In the grand scheme of things you're probably better off paying it and slowing down but it's your call.

Thanks for the advice BIG. actually i was driving a rental car at that point of time i think i have no chances of calibrated odometer in this case right! . So are there any more chances left to reduce my demerit points .i m not at all concerned with the fine but i m much worried about my points . I am planning to buy a car in jan 2017 . So it might effect my higher insurance rates right .

If you still have the rental you can but if it's turned in then unlikely. I can't imagine the difference in 1 point will make a difference when it comes to insurance. But like I said. You can go to court and look for the officer. See if he/she is amenable to assisting you with a reduction to defective equipment but without a calibration I'm not sure it will work.

The calibrated speedometer idea is interesting. I use a gps with a mph readout in a small corner. My cars generally have been off a few mph too slow. Not that this helps in with current problem but for future reference.
