Hi. Right now we live in northern Maine, but my husband (a southern CA native) and I would like to move to a place that has much, much less snow and cold! I've been looking into the Glen Allen area. I'd like a small to medium town with little snow. How is the humidity? Is it very hot and buggy? Have there been floods in that area? Tornados? I would appreciate any information whatsoever. Thanks in advance.

Glen Allen is pretty much a suburb of Richmond. Wikipedia says the population in Glen Allen is around 12,500 (in 2000) surely increased by now, as this section of Henrico County (part of the Greater Richmond Area) is in great demand.

Snow=not likely. We had flurries this year, and last winter is snowed once (minimum accumulation). The winter's are fairly mild. Low's in the 20's, Highs in the 40's. Summer is a whole different ball game.
July and August are scorchers. And sweatboxes. I moved here from Central Virginia, and the first summer was very humid compared to what I was used to. The air just tends to get really heavy in late July, August. But with that said, last summer had a fairly mild August, many days a little too cool to get into the pool without shivering.

Richmond isn't a valley so it isn't as prone to Tornado's. Hurricane's have affected the area at different times, but most any area of the mid-atlantic or east coast has also been subject to Hurricane's at one time or the other. In 2004, downtown Richmond, Shockoe Bottom, was flooded due to Hurricane Gaston. It caused major damage to that area, but once you see Richmond, and the "bottom" you won't wonder why.
Anyhow, Glen Allen isn't near the downtown area, so it, and many other areas remained intact.

Thanks for the info! I've been following the daily weather in Glen Allen. Should be in the sixties all week! That's a lot different from where I am LOL! Thanks again.
