Do children learn Spanish in elementary school in Virginia, or does it depend on the school?

It depends on the school. I know Fairfax and Prince William County have Spanish Immersion elementary schools in their districts, but again, that is only at a few buildings. There are other buildings with different immersion programs (other than Spanish), but not all buildings offer immersion programs.

They probably do on the east side, but it's a bit more difficult to find on the west side. When I was in elementary school, they had a Spanish program once a week, but I don't think they do that anymore. One of the martial arts students that I have known since he was 8 (he's 14 now) was in a special program where the intelligent students were given the chance to be placed in a program where they stay after school 3 times a week or more and learn Spanish. However, it's not really offered to everyone.

Different schools have different curriculums though, so I would definitely call the schools you are interested in for your kids and see what they have.
