Good morning/afternoon/evening,

I'm looking into acquiring a few acres in the middle peninsula somewhere, for a rural retreat, nature spot get away, etc.
After finding some very good spots in the king and queen county, middlesex counties - I wanted to know any local perspectives on the odor and pollution from the paper mill in West Point?

Short quick question - Is 10-11 miles (as the crow flies) far enough away to be away from the "worst" of it? Being northeast of west point, I feel like that area could have more pollution because of prevailing winds.

There are lots of reports that scream cancer for the area, but I just wanted to know any local perspective. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4517582/

Not a local and can't help from that perspective. Smell can carry a long way under the right conditions. I lived in Montery/Highland County for six years and on a few days you could smell the paper mill in Covington.

Have you seen this thread on C-D: //www.city-data.com/forum/richm...-virginia.html
Good luck.

I drive through West Point prett regularly. I’ve never smelled the mill more than a mile or two out of town. I can’t insgine that t would carry 10 or more miles. I imagine on days with a low ceiling the smell could travel but honestly it never smelled that bad to me. I wouldn’t want to live beside the plant but knowing that it’s just a paper mill, I’m not grossed out by the smell.
I’m sure locals go nose blind pretty quickly too. Accerage in King and Queen or Mddlesex sounds lovely. Go for it!
