Any folks live in Galax? How is the crime there? Looking at some properties in West Galax near/off W. Stuart Dr/Waugh area. I understand it is a small town and that is okay. Just mainly want to know about how crime is in that area I mentioned.

I've never cared for it and there have been several on here who live/lived there and they generally do not speak fondly of it.

I moved here from Minnesota in May of 2020. I love it here. I have lived in upstate NY, Ohio, California, and Texas. I love the landscape and the mountains. The economy has not been good for many years since the furniture industry went downhill, but the people are very real and friendly. I don't live in Galax but on the far East side on the Blue Ridge Parkway. There are low rent areas and other that are "seedy", but it's a somewhat depressed area. There ARE a lot of retired people and many that moved here from other locations like me. Homes with a bit of land are very inexpensive compared with Minnesota and the weather is much milder. It's not going be to everyone's taste, but if you love Nature you should like Virginia.
