I totally agree and feel the best approach is not to get into political discussions, especially with neighbors and it could be like bringing up the abortion issue or religion. Once you establish a really good friendship with someone, then it’s more acceptable to learn someone’s private beliefs.

We have live in very conservative and liberal areas and have always managed to make friends and get along with people regardless of their beliefs. You just need to know how to tactfully skate around or generalize with people who might want to suck you in.

Move to an area you love and have an open mind when dealing with those who might have very different opinions than yours.

BTW, I like the Harrisonburg area, it has a lot to offer❗️

In these polarizing times, advertising your political leanings can get a reaction from those with different political leanings. This should come as no surprise.

Still, the reaction to your bumper sticker was probably mild compared to what you would have received wearing a red MAGA hat in DC.
