It depends on where you drive from as to exactly how long it takes. My husband commuted from Danville to Greensboro for 1 1/2 years. We lived in south Danville and he worked near the airport right off I-40. It took him an hour most days to travel between the two towns. Traffic on US 29 isn't bad once you get away from Greensboro but commuting got old quickly so we sold our home in Danville and moved to High Point. We are so grateful we were able to sell especially now with the gas prices and the economy the way it is. BTW are you thinking of commuting for work? If so, there are many folks that would probably want to carpool right now if you work a similar schedule. Good Luck.

JJM thanks so much for your follow up. I would be working at the Good Year plant (if I get the offer and accept it) so I would ensure that I lived furthest south ( i think i got that right) into Greensboro. I hear you about the drive I would rather avoid long commutes yet it appears that most of the towns that are recommended are away from Danville and a min of a 30 min drive.

Are there any historic/trendy towns that are safe in or around Danville?

How do u like living in Danville?

Hi Seasons 121! My husband and I have lived in Danville for a year (moved here from Pennsylvania). I can tell you right now that if trendy is what you want, then Danville is probably not the city for you. The area is economically depressed and crime rates are on the rise. My husband and I never go to the "downtown" area, which consists of only a few blocks, because there isn't usually much going on. Our church is on Main St. and I have to be cautious when going there for evening choir rehearsal or a function because people are often approached by "street people" (what the town refers to as homeless people or beggars). There definitely isn't much going on culturally, so if you're into the arts, then Danville probably isn't the place for you either. Basically, if you are looking for a trendy, city type of atmosphere, I would look closer to Greensboro. There is a lot going on in the triad area of Greensboro/High Point/Winston Salem.

I will say that the people in Danville are (in general) very friendly. I wouldn't go for a walk on North Main St. at any time of the day because there are people that you will want to stay away from, but overall, the people are very warm and welcoming. The people in Greensboro are rather friendly for being a metropolitan area as well.
