Try looking into Gainesville, Centreville, Manassas( I live here and it has gotten much better in the past 3 years!) There is also Fairfax, Reston, Ashburn but these areas are much more $$. Good Luck, hey my house will be for sale in 3 weeks...

If public tuition at state colleges is a consideration, I'd say Virginia wins this hands down. Universtiy of Maryland is a fine school, but Virginia has truly outstanding public school options, maybe the best outside of California. The University of Virginia, William & Mary, Virginia Tech, and George Mason are all schools with national reputations, and that's not even half the list. James Madison, VCU, VMI, Mary Washington and several others also make nice state-funded options.
