I currently live in Corona, right near Orange County. I may be taking a job in Winchester Virginia. While I love the quaintness of the town I think it may be to small for someone who comes from a population of 80,000. I would prefer a diverse community that is not too busy, but not too quiet. I also like to have a variety of shopping options and dining areas. Are there cities near Winchester that may suit my needs? I visited Virginia and D.C. and I liked Chantilly, but would this be too far of a commute? Are there cities similar to Chantilly or Sterling that may be closer. I am looking at my options. Thanks.

Leesburg would be about a 45 minute commute to Winchester.

Leesburg would be the best option I could present as well. There's simply not much between these two towns. The drive to Winchester is a little long, but it is very pretty, and it moves along. You would also be closer to excellent dining and shopping options in Leesburg, Ashburn, Sterling, Herndon, and Reston in the evenings and on the weekends. Let me know if you need more specifics or recommendations along these lines.

What about south of Winchester? Or what are some cities you can suggest near Winchester?

Another question, how much do housing such as condos and townhouses run in Winchester or surrounding cities?

If you're looking to buy rather than rent, one place you can go to get a feel for Winchester area prices from what's currently on the market there is trulia.com. weichert.com is often a pretty good source too. Good way to get a sense what kind of place X amount of dollars is likely to land you, and also to get an idea of what the general character of the area is like. Much cheaper than flying in from Orange County, too...
