Friday I was driving on 81 south doing 80 and got pulled over in a 65 mph zone. The cop said I can pay it online, but I'm more concerned about keeping the points off my license. I never had any points before and this is my first speeding ticket ever.

Is there some Safe Driving course or something I can take up here? I was told by someone that some lawyer will send me mail to represent me and I can use them without even showing up to court, but I rather not spend 100ss on that.

Try calling 1-866-DMV LINE. Va Dept. Motor Vehicles.
I noticed they were pulling over lots of drivers this past weekend. Va has a serious transportation problem in that our legislature will not improve the
interstates and I-81 has been taken over by truck traffic. The only answer to this is to give out tickets. I believe they are trying to collect enough fines to pay for some of the needed improvements since republicans do not believe in taxes here. Some parts of I-81 are so bad(north of Roanoke) the road is starting to buckle. I noticed my 2 kids were enjoying the ride as it started to remind them of an amuzement ride! So Sad for this state!

The trucks and hilly highway tempts a car to speed because noone likes driving around trucks. I clocked up to 80 for just a few seconds and that's exactly when I was caught. Thankfully it wasn't past 80 or it'll be more trouble.

I called the court there and was told that my local DMV may have classes that can remove my points. The fine wasn't so much, $136 altogether.

Glad you have it all resolved.

I'm sure you probably already know this, but I would guess you were probably targeted because you were from out of state (if you had Jersey license plates).

I can travel 80mph everyday on 81 with no problem (and believe it or not, still get passed by other drivers all the time...I do 80mph in the slow lane..lol). Yet, you always see out-of-towners getting pulled over.

I agree, I would go as far to say I go 80 on there too and never get pulled but.. since I have to get on there tomorrow I better not do that! .. but I do see out of towners pulled all the time!

If the trucks are going 80, why not us? Thanks for the donation from your traffic ticket, we might improve I-81 one day!

Haha...yeah.

But honestly there are places along 81 where i refuse to go below 75mph. Its just too dangerous with everyone else going 80+mph...especially the trucks.

My niece got stopped doing 22 miles over coming from NJ to NC to college. They said it was reckless driving, Class 1 misdemeanor and up to 2 years in jail. Do we need to get a lawyer? We contacted two and they both want $750. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Pay it and don't worry about the points - they probably won't show up.

You can take a course for +3 but only in VA. They want your money.
