Hello,
We are moving to Virginia...my husband will be based at Little Creek Naval Base. I will be attending grad school at William and Mary. I need suggestions for areas to live in that can balance commute time, excellent schools for my seven year old son and nice, safe housing developments...areas that have the basics: target, starbucks, etc.

We are not wealthy but we will pay extra for safe, family oriented areas.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Nikki

I live in the Tabb area of Yorktown and would suggest either Tabb or Grafton as areas to consider. The area is located between the two work areas for you and the schools are great. Crime is very low as well. The houses are a bit more (don't know if you are looking to rent or buy) but this would be a great area to start your search. Williamsburg is wonderful but would be a long trip for your husband to make every day.

One of you is going to have to commute across the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnell. Not something to look forward to. Traffic gets really snarly across the bridge and most residents avoid it like the plague!!

You will have to make a decision as to which of you can make that sacrafice more easily. You because your schedule is more varied and you won't have to travel during rush hour.... Or him because you need to be available to the children during the day.

After that decision is made, then you can your home in the right neighobrhood. They exist on both sides of the bridge.
