Although there are some nice, and even some very nice, areas in PG County, it's still sort of the bottom of the DC suburban ladder at this point. Both schools and crime are negative factors in signficant areas. So it would depend on where in PG you were thinking of, and maybe on where you had to get to as far as commuting goes. Purchasing a home for $225K will meanwhile be a significant challenge in any part of the DC area...

I think he meant Prince George County, Virginia

I don't know too much about Prince George, but it's rural for the most part, so it may not have what you'd consider a happenin' nightlife. Not much traffic there, so the only thing you need to worry about with commuting is distance.

Default Oops..Prince George East of Petersburg

Humm I guess I should of asked about the eastern side of Petersburg. Prince George county? Looks like there is alot of building going on. I want to be between Richmond and Norfolk..thought it might be cheaper than Williamsburg but my map is old so I do not know how the road system between both are.

I am looking at the PG VA area also, I have taled to some REA and they said PG is rural and very nice houses start in the mid 200K and go up. Distance is a factor in driving and there is very little traffic. Why are you going so far west from Norfolk area? that is a heck of a drive?

Good Luck.

Default Need to be close to Airports

I will probably be flying out of Norfolk and eventually Richmond if SWA starts a route there. So my mind thought would be this area. Worst case senario is I would have to drive to BWI if I could not catch a hop to work...

the prince george GIS maps are up online to look at. you can see it all from the air, its called ArcIMS Viewer. if you seach for it itll come up on the county website. the mapper is great because you can check the box to make subdivisions active and it shows you the parcel outlines.
we are looking near the river, but for a part with some higher ground.
good luck, maybe we'll be neighbors!

Default check out eastern henrico

You might like eastern Henrico. It's somewhat similar demographically (I'm trying to be nice, but historically both areas are lower income) but more accessible to city of Richmond, very close to RIC and probably closer to ORF via I-64 than Prince George (either one will be about 1.5 hrs drive w/o traffic). Also Newport News airport is closer. Traffic in Norfolk can be bad especially at the tunnels, but that would affect you either way. There are some new home developments and some rural tracts available in lower price ranges in eastern Henrico. It might be a bit pricier than PG but not by much. It is cheaper than most areas of Richmond that are not totally slummy. Also check out New Kent County.
