I'm highly considering moving to Lenox apartment complex. I prefer a washer and dryer and these seem most affordable compared to other apartments... I also have Blair House even though no W/D I may consider....

I like to go out to DC but the people I got out with do not live in Silver Spring (all over the place really) so I would be coming home alone at 3 am. I typically drive when I got out rather than metro. However, is the walk from metro to apartments safe? I wonder if I did come back on metro I could even take a cab to drop me off for safety reasons?

Ive been used to living with a male and always with someone. I have not lived alone or in an "urban place"-- meaning being able to walk to a metro, store or restaurant! Always in far suburb land. So I know the area but just as a visitor. Mainly been in upper Montgomery county.

As a former SS resident (this is JMHO, and I am a F) I would not walk alone in downtown SS in the evening after dark, period. Google the Montgomery County Police Web site and check out crime statistics. But that's me. I would DRIVE ONLY, except maybe look for a cab if it's early evening, not late. I've never had an in-unit W/D, and for me I would not require that (although I want W/D same floor), other things would be more important. If noise bothers you be careful there, it's close to major highway and to trains.

Male here, have walked alone after midnight plenty of times in SS. I don't see why a woman couldn't do it if a man can. Just walk smart - no headphones, cell phone in hand, look confident, be aware - like you would anywhere else late at night and you'll be fine.

Is downtown silver spring safe for a single 30 yo female? YES. You'll be fine.

As far as I know Metro doesn't run at 3am? You can always take a cab if you don't feel like walking.

But it's fine.

I lived in Silver Spring for a year a couple of years ago. Was 25yo single female, and walked home from the metro after midnight multiple times. Never had any problems or concerns. It's a pretty young crowd that lives downtown and there's always other people out and about.

I recently moved into Lenox. Great building so far. Also, incredibly close to the metro and I would feel fine walking the half a block to the building late at night. If you're driving, Lenox has a secured garage so that would be fine at night too.
