Trickle of MD'ers going towards NoVA?

Is it just me, or do I feel a small theme of a trickle of people who live in the suburbs of DC on the MD side, who seem to have a small preference for making a move to the VA side?

I'm completely indifferent, not trying to start a VA vs MD thread. But, it does seem that there are subtle hints of that.

However, on the VA side, doesn't seem to be many with the intention of making the move to the MD side.

I think also housing prices reflect that. NoVA just seems through and through expensive (except for Prince William County)...whereas it seems MD has some pockets of all kinds of different prices.

On the other hand, with some pockets of lower prices, it seems inevitable that some of the VA folk who aren't looking at Prince William, might make a move towards MD instead.

Well, what do you think?

I've considered such a move, but only because our worksites are there. I'm otherwise quite happy in MD. There are just some things about NOVA, that bother me now, that didn't back when I did live there. I'm not sure that I want to move now. One of those is the way they talk on their forum about NOVA as if Washington DC or Maryland doesn't even exist.

Guilty as charged. I'm tired of MD. I've been here most of my life and I just don't want to raise a family here. My wife also hates MD with a passion as well. I believe there are a lot of nice parts of NoVA that would be better off for us to raise our children compared to parts in MD. It seems like the really nice parts of MD are insanely expensive and have ridiculous taxes. At least with VA, Prince William County is somewhat close and affordable. That is where my heart is now.

I used to think NOVA was better... Until I actually moved there!

Grass is greener on the other side.

There are more jobs on the VA side, so people may want to move to VA to be closer to their jobs.

If your commute doesn't matter, then all in all I think it ends up a wash. As I said in a thread on the NoVA board, there are more differences within each state than there are between the states.

That would be interesting to hear about.

What didn't you like after you made the move, and what did you miss from the MD side?

The areas are vurtually the same. I thought the housing prices would be better, but they are similar if not more.

Thought the schools would be better, but the same. Bigger though and that's not better in my eyes for high school.

Thought traffic would be better, but worse.

Thought crime would be better, but the same if not worse. NOVA was on dataline about their MS 13 problem

Now it seems you're comparing Prince William to Montgomery County, Md and that's just not Apples to apples.

Also, Prince William has a huge issue with forclosures.

Also, any loon can arm themselves and carry a gun in VA.

I'm currently overseas, but have been a long-time VA resident. I bought a house in MD for when I move back. I found PG looked best, but there were several places in Northern Virginia that I would have been happy in as well.

Frederick County = Prince William County
Howard County = Loudon County
Montgomery County = Fairfax County

Those are the comparisons you have to make.

I actually believe it or not, I think

Prince George's County = Prince William County

I know, I know, people will think I'm crazy, but there are many similarities between the two, especially economically, demographically and as far as home value. Frederick is not as diverse or have the soiled reputation that PWC or PGC has compared to their neighboring counties (Fairfax and Montgomery, respectively).
