I live in the Croom neighborhood in Upper Marlboro, and we are in the flight path of Andrews. Yesterday afternoon there was a very low and VERY loud jet that passed overhead. It seemed to be traveling pretty slowly for a fighter jet, and hearing the noise inside the house made me think I was going to see a C-5 flying past. When I got outside it was rather small, and higher than I would have imagined, but lower than the F-18s that normally fly past. Did anyone else see this plane yesterday, or have any idea what it might have been? It didn't look like any jet I have seen before, and I have definitely never heard a plane so loud it shook the house. Thanks in advance.

I don't live near there so I'm not fortunate to see the really cool planes that fly in and out of Andrews. There's a bunch of different aircraft assigned to that base as you probably know,,,and transients as well. Could have been an F-16 or maybe one of the older Navy Prowlers (it fits the bill as smaller but really loud)

Yeah, newer fighter/bombers like the Hornet have relatively quiet engines. You really don't hear them until they're right over you or even past you.

F-18A Hornet

EA6 Prowler. There was a squadron of these stationed aboard Andrews several years ago. I don't know if they still are. And remember, you're also near NAS PAX in St. Mary's County.

F16 Falcon

Thanks for the pics! It actually looked more like the Prowler. I would have recognized the F-16, and the F-18s fly past all the time. I don't think it came out of Pax River because it was flying low and slow, and from the direction of Andrews. I actually spend a fair amount of time down at Solomons, and have seen some pretty crazy jets, but this one I've never seen before. It was cool, but I'm pretty sure it woke the dead that day.

I live in Camp Springs and love seeing the jets go by they really aren't so loud and it the sound lasts for a nanosecond. I can't recall ever being awoken by a loud jet.
