Hi everyone,

I worked in DC for 3 years and moved to California four months ago for a job. I was laid off from my job in California. I applied for benefits here and was told that I can apply for a combined claim. (Which I think means I first apply for benefits in DC and then when that runs out I apply in California.) I can't get though on the telephone to either unemployment office so I have some questions:

What is the process? If I am denied in DC do I have to file an appeal there and fly back for a hearing? Or do I file an appeal in California?

I'm not familiar with DC unemployment law but if you willingly quit a job I was under the impression you can't file for unemployment. Seems like your best bet is Cali.
