My family is relocating from out of state and recently looked at a home in the Derwood area near Redland and Needwood. The home is in a very nice small neighborhood that feeds into Candlewood Elementary, but I am concerned about the area and the safety. We have 2 young children and I would like to not have to worry about break ins and car thefts. Can anyone shed light on this area of Rockville, specifically near that intersection?

I think safety will not be a problem there. It's a nice area.

I have a friend in Derwood, and I think it is a safe area. But you can check the intersection with http://www.spotcrime.com/#Redland%20...erwood%2C%20MD I think the most recent ones were theft or burglary from a commercial address. You could always install security systems if you are concerned about your house and car.
