Hi

It's been over 10 years since I have been to this area (org. from NY) and I am in talks with an organization in Rockville. They are sending me down this Monday for a final interview. MD/DC wasn't really on my radar as far as relocating but the job opportunity sounded interesting so I applied. I also am in talks with places in Tacoma and Tucson, but no offers yet. My boyfriend and I really saw ourselves living out West but are trying to be open with things. We are both in our early 30s and are looking to rent. I think living close to DC or in DC would be best, however I think our budget initially will be no more than $1,000/month.

So my questions are...

What are the attractions to living in this area?

What are the people like?

What does it offer in terms of outdoors activities/nature (mountains, beaches)? FYI, I am not into Ocean City, MD.

What is that budget designated to? Rent? I hope it grows soon.

Attractions - DC is a huge tourist attraction due to the museums, parks and monuments.

People - it's a melting pot.

There are miles of hike/bike trails, lots of parks, the mountains are 4 hrs away and you have your choice of nearby beach towns - NC is cool.

I was also going to mention that the Appalachian Trail and places to go whitewater rafting are not far away. There are also historic sites to visit from Mt. Vernon to Civil war battlefields.

There are many intelligent and high-motivated people around. Many people are too career-oriented, and don't take time to be friendly. But, you can normally find a niche group of friends.
