I *think* that it depends on whether it is an incorporated city or town or just an unincorporated area of Prince George's County that is commonly referred to by a name, like Springdale. The confusion comes in because the media and conventional wisdom commonly refer to a place by it's postal address (very common for Hyattsville and Greenbelt) even when the residence is not located in that municipality.

Did anyone know that Silver Spring is NOT a city or town ? Same with Bethesda. It's an unincorporated area of MoCo.

Sorry, just kind of a pet issue of mine !
That's not true at all, Carroll4628. As Scrapper105 pointed out, certain municipalities in the county have their own "in-house" services. I currently live in the actual "City of Hyattsville" and most of my life in an area designated by the USPS as "Hyattsville," although technically it isn't. When I was living in the non-official Hyattsville area, all of our services were provided through the county, from trash to recycling to the police, etc. I now live in the Arts District, and our services are provided from the City of Hyattsville. Our trash and recycling services and the trash bins and recycling bins, are both provided from the City of Hyattsville, and have large logos on the sides that indicate this. Our police force is covered by the City of Hyattsville, not Prince George's County Police. Also, as pointed out, the Town of University Park, Town of Riverdale Park, City of College Park, City of Greenbelt and Town of Cottage City, all have some services from their town. And Germantown is also not designated a city or town. It's the largest unincorporated area in Montgomery County.

I am curious if there is anyone out there with experience on the level of service that PG county departments provide for Springdale.

I am sort of superstitious, so I am going to wait awhile longer before I give my final, detailed assessment (which I will of course post so that other people will know what they are getting into) so I don't jinx things...

But so far, so good!
