Latest buzz on the PG Casino. The RFP was released today and interested bidders will have until 5/10/2013 to submit their proposal. The article below details the next steps.

Here is the link to the RFP for those that want to read it.

Maryland's casinos in general need to do away with these ridiculous regulations. Unions are too powerful in Maryland and creates a business unfriendly environment compared to other states like Virginia and other places to the South of us. Yes, some liberla states are still prosperous because they have other things that hold people there like California's weather and New York's urban living for those who like it, but trust me liberal policies are BAD for business. You liberals must agree......wouldn't you rather do business in a state with a lower minimum wage, less unions, less environmental restrictions, etc?????? If I owned a company of course I would want to be somewhere where I can pay employees as little as possible and deal with as little government interference as possible. That is just common sense.

I don't understand why Maryland casinos can't offer free drinks to people who are gambling, and why smoking can't be allowed in casinos like its allowed in Las Vegas. Maryland's casino restrictions are the worst of probably any other state that has legalized gambling. And I hope the new casino has a hotel attached none of the other ones do, I don't know why Arundel Mills and Perryville don't have a hotel linked to the casino like in real casino resorts. There are hotels near those casinos but not directly attached and still require driving or shuttle buses.

I agree. Their proposed location is the strongest of the two in terms of infrastructure. It will be interesting to see if PNG will decide to throw its hat in. Aside from their election debacle, they still own Perryville and there is no guarantee that they could sell it to qualify for a license. I heard that they are going to restructure their portfolio and move ownership of Perryville to a subsidiary. Even so they will have to contend with the belief that they would remain biased to their property in WV as well as whether they can match the investment proposed by MGM. Especially considering that they are proposing the same amount or more in projects proposed in Philadelphia, Springfield MA, and Toronto....It will also be interesting to see who else will step up to the plate and put in a bid. There are not a lot of ideal lots in the designated area but it will be interesting nonetheless. I perused through the RFP and it has some interesting monetary requirements. In addition to the license fee being held in escrow all bidders have to submit a legal deposit of 500,000 to underwrite the state's legal fees should they decide to contest the award. Not to mention all of the application fees that they will have to submit.....there is also an allowance that allows the commission allow all or some of the facility to be opened as early as 18 months after the award (hmmm). Whatever happens its going to be an interesting couple of months.

PNG doesn't have a chance. I don't think they can come up with the cash to match or even exceed MGM's BID. And I have to believe MGM has wiggle room to increase their offering along with all the other requirements to get the casino off the ground. Lastly, payback is a mutha.

I don't think they do either but something tells me that they would bid to loose so that they can contest and try to slow down the process. If the voting lawsuit was any indicator though any suits brought forth will be dismissed quickly.

I'm sure those judges who may hear this case can already see it coming a mile away and will more than likely have a response already available to throw it out. I think PNG should focus on its casinos already in the area and the racetrack. I like the idea of multiple casino operators rather than one who has multiple casinos. It's nice to have a good mix for competition and variety. And personally, after visiting PNG's websites, their casinos suck.

Good point.......they already have precedence from when they contested Maryland Live's license.

Agreed but I think that they would offload Rosecroft if they don't get slots there. They have already stated as much.

I believe in competition too. It yields a better product for the consumer. I am not a fan of their Hollywood brand either but that is the only one that they have outside of LV. That said IF they did get a license that would be 3 HCs in close proximity to DC which makes for a very bland mix

I believe this attitude is called "race to the bottom." You could say that Mexico and China attract a lot of factories and businesses with their cheap labor force, but do you actually want to live there? As a liberal I believe a lot of these policies should be uniform on a federal level, so that states aren't desperately cannibalizing each another for businesses. A prosperous country with a well-educated, well-paid, healthy workforce and a strong middle class is the goal, not just "business!"

I love all of the attention to a Maryland casio, while the FBI HQ relocation goes on without a peep. FBI would bring WAY MORE than any caino could to Maryland.....youa re right, unions and other regulatory behavior that has driven many businesses to VA will simply continue here.

The Casino will have a tough time in MD IMO.
