I work in Rosslyn, he works in Downtown DC (think Federal Triangle). We're in search of an apartment, preferably no more than 1300/mo for rent (plus utilities) in an area that is near (within 15 minute drive) any Orange or Blue line stop in Maryland.

Given how much we're willing to pay, we know we aren't going to find anything as nice as the Basement Apt we're in now in Bowie, but it would be nice to find a place where I won't fear for my life while entering/leaving the building. For instance, we're okay with New Carrollton, NOT okay with Forestville, Suitland, etc.

Any suggestions, C-D?

I imagine no one has answered because they don't know of a place fitting your conditions. One issue is that most modern apartment buildings will make you pay for you own utilities. Why don't you refigure your budget assuming that you pay the utilities?

I found one possible at the Town Center Circle, Lake Arbor. It is a gated community at $1250 for a 1 bedroom. The street view looks decent. There's also an "adult" community at 13301 New Acadia Lane, Upper Marlboro from $1100 in a "secure" building. (Maybe by adult they mean over 55?)

Thanks for the response!

Sorry if I wasn't clear, I meant that I've got 1300 for the apartment itself, and then we can pay for utilities in addition to that.

Sad to say, the place in Upper Marlboro is definitely a 55+ community. Ah well, I'm still searching!

Why don't you live on the orange/blue line in VA instead? There aren't very many safe areas near orange/blue in Maryland.

I was going to suggest Waldorf but that would be a brutal commute. I think you should be able to find something in New Carollton and points north in PG, in that price range.

She's about $500-1000 under budget for an apartment on the Metro in Virginia. She probably could do West End Alexandria at that price point and hop on a bus to the Metro.

There are a ton of of apartments over by the Fed Ex stadium that are nice. I lived in that area for almost three years in a gated apartment complex and never had an issue. Plus it's very close to the orange line.
