And the both of us were really feeling each other and we shared the same class that semester, Biology. Hell, both me and this other dude that I knew were in a friendly competition with each other to see who can try to get her attention the most! lol But, she often preferred talking with me and dude was eying the Jamaican New Yorker girl (Friends with her also) whole time too Those were some funny days.

But the reason why I never smashed was most likely because I didn't have a car and my learner's permit restriction didn't allow me to drive unless I had someone 21 and older with me I was 19 at the time and she was 21 btw. She didn't had a car either and the both of us where gonna go on a double date with my "competitor" friend (Our designated driver lol) and the Jamaican chick, but it never happened.

So, basically all of those inconveniences killed my chances :sigh: Ah well, there's plenty of fish in the sea and I'm about to go on another date this summer anyways So, it's all good! And this summer, I'm gonna get that license!

I think your statement is out of line. There is nothing wrong with wanting to be with people of the same culture. What is American culture? It is a melting pot of many cultures.

I also say this as a child of African immigrants.

Yes, I agree. But me wanting to stay with people of the same tribe wasn't the point of the thread. A Nigerian is a Nigerian, I don't have a preference for Yoruba over Igbo or whatever. Ghanaians are dope too, one of my closest friends was Ghanaian. I was just asking a question because I was curious.

There is an American culture (you know the culture of the people that founded this country) of course now with multiculturalism de jure folks can stay in their own little bubbles. This development doesn't bode well for the future of this country.

Reminds me of the problems South Africa has after apartheid. Now instead of being discriminated against by whites they discriminate against each other based on blackness. Strangely the blacker you are the lower your social status in S. Africa.

Obviously tribalism doesn't come into play here.
But cricket team rivalry is another matter.

Can you not read? Who said that I want to stay in my own little bubble? I said I was simply curious, so that is why I started this thread.

That's not strange. It's sad, but it's commonplace in America too. It's called colorism, where those of a lighter skin shade have an advantage over those with darker complexions.

S. Africa takes it to a whole new level. They self segregate at the University of S. Africa with separate dorm facilities based on blackness.

And it is both sad and strange. To me it is strange, to most it is sad.

Actually it's not strange at all. American Blacks are conditioned to think that one drop of Black blood makes one Black. That's a minority experience in the diaspora. South African Coloreds have a distinct culture from African Blacks that goes beyond skin color. Many are from the Cape, descend from Malay slaves and speak Afrikaans as opposed to English or an African language.

So it's not merely segregation based on skin color but culture.
