There is going to need to be a mass transit solution sooner rather than later.

Going to be interesting to see what band-aid they use once MGM opens.

My guess would be more october/november. I am sure they are going to want to capitalize on the holiday season as well as the inauguration. That said they would need time to get the kinks out of their processes and acclimate their new employees. Better to make mistakes when it doesn't matter than when it does.

Agreed. One of the residents that spoke at the planning board meeting last Thursday mentioned that they need to, at minimum, ramp up the number of metro buses coming to the site.

Surprisingly seamless. It was approved and will be moving to the county council. There were very few people that opposed the new development(maybe one). Most chimed in concerns about mass transportation and ensuring that there is adequate pedestrian access. It appears that the project is Peterson's and not related to the MGM project. Although not mentioned in the hearing there is speculation that the hotel and timeshare may be a Ritz Carlton.

I recall you mentioning something about the Ritz Carlton. I didn't know they did timeshare though.

Yeah I didn't either until I did some research on the brand. Apparently they also do residences too. If they do come, being next to MGM would be an optimal location. Would actually be a great location for any hotel that sits there but I am sure Peterson is going to make sure that it is a 4 star or better brand since it will be right next to MGM.

Interesting article on the property's progress and the justification of it opening later in the year.

Quote:
The Maryland Video Lottery Facility Location Commission granted MGM Resorts International the state’s sixth and final casino license in December 2013. Under that deal, MGM is obligated to open this August, commission officials say, but the company has the option to request a six-month extension, which could give them until February.

Quote:
MGM plans to make that request, Meade said. In its proposal for the project, MGM had already said it would need up to 30 months to build the gaming complex, she said. Construction at the site began in May 2014.

No probably not. a 30 month schedule would take them closer to late October/November. From what I know about the permitting process they would have to wait until they are in a 30 day window from the original deadline to ask for an extension. Like they said in the article, they know that they will be asking for the 6 month extension.
