Apparently all DC area location's except for Bethesda have just been acquired by Gold's.

Ugh, I'm nervous. Soon there'll be no choice for anything. Fitness First is great--$29.99 month-to-month and prices haven't gone up in like 3 years? Awesome. not only that, you can go to any of their locations.

I remember when I used to be at Bally's you had to pay for each location. WTF?

Anyway, for those of you with Gold's, what are their policies, do they nickel and dime you?

Used to be with Gold's and they nickel and dime you. Usually your membership applies to one location. They do provide a package for certain sites in the area (typically company owned). It will be interesting because their is a fitness first in Fort Washington that used to a World's Gym. We will have to see what happen's next.

What is the name of the gym on top of the hill on 210 before heading down to Acokeek?

Fitness First. I got the email this AM so I wonder what will happen. Not sure why the Bethesda one is exempted (although I barely use it because it is rather cramped IMO).

There's a Fitness Evolution at PG Plaza Mall and there's an LA Fitness across the street. I'm currently at Sport & Health due to being robbed at an LA Fitness. I figure the more I pay, odds are I won't have to deal with that anymore. I was a Gold's member when I first started going to the gym. Gym contracts are extremely complex and they make you jump through hoops to cancel. I was considering Fitness Evolution's $10/month price. But now that Gold's has bought them out, I guess that's not going to happen.

That has to be the 3rd time that gym has changed names/companies. Craziness. They really need another gym down there too, it's too small and the YMCA is too expensive.

I go to Planet Fitness. For $19.99 a month I can use whichever Planet Fitness I want. I think it is good for regular people who don't want or need a whole bunch of different equipment or personal trainers. I also really appreciate the No yelling/grunting/throwing weights rule.

At the risk of boasting, my ~5K square foot (in terms of livable space) new construction house in Fort Washington is more than enough space for my family of 3 so I have a ton of space to build up my gym. I have found that the opportunity to freely run on my high-speed treadmill while listening to an unlimited playlist of Internet music connected to my house-wide 23 in-ceiling speaker system while also watching CNN on my 60 inch High-Def television is not only cheaper in the long-run, but also way more enjoyable. Oh, and I can run in the nude -- another perk you can't get at the gymnasium.
