We moved to Silver Spring four months ago from Ohio for his job at UMD. It was taking me a while to find a job and expanded my search and got a really nice job in Reston. As I have been finding out the traffic back is a nightmare. When our lease is up I was considering moving "half way" but am not sure where that would be. I like living in downtown Silver Spring, the urban but kind of suburb feel. What would be a good half way area? At the moment we only have one car and he can take the college shuttle to work. We in all likelihood will only be here for 2 to max 3 more years. Is there a great place in the middle or should I just put up with it for a few years? Sorry for the rambles.

The Rosslyn to Ballston corridor of Arlington (similar to Silver Spring)ccould work. He takes Metro, and you drive to Reston.

We enjoyed living in Glover Park (North Georgetown), but it would probably require two cars, as there is no convenient Metro access. For part of the time, I drove out to Fairfax via I-66. The American University area or Bethesda might work better.

Look on a map, but there is no easy answer. Don't you just love the traffic on the Cabin John Bridge at 5pm? It starts at about 3PM and ends at about 7PM. It wasnt always like that....

I would look at the farthest western points on the UMD routes and start there.

Arlington area of the orange line would also work - he could take orange to green to get to UMD and you could drive to Reston.

It's just a tough set-up either way ...
