Maryland is a better place for a family. The schools are so good, and youth sports and activities are great. I would recommend north potomac/darnestown. The best school district is Quince Orchard, and then wooton high school, but theres a lot of asians.

Howard County isn't near metros so that would be a problem. You'd be moreso a Baltimore suburb than a DC suburb.

I wouldn't consider being close to Dulles a plus. You can get to almost any airport easily. OP you should also consider downtown Silver Spring but make sure you're in the school cluster you want.

That depends. All three can be reached easily from DC by public transport, but driving can be a major pain at times. If you move to Gaithersburg, all three are a long haul, but only DCA and BWI are easily accessed by bus or train. Dulles is a real long drive, and even longer on public transport, and when traffic is bad, it is really bad. I don't remember the OP listing that as important, but that is the info based on my experience living in Gaithersburg. Out in Loudoun, Dulles is the only good option, so Gaithersburg is probably better since you get more options.
