Shake Shack is definitely a destination retailer. Congrats College Park and Prince George's County!

Chopt is also a big win. Looking at the DC area locations, the College Park location will be the easternmost outpost of that retailer.

Now, if we can get some executive chef places and not chains, that would be great. Another nice-sized retail space is at lease. Hope it's something unique and tasty.

Duck donuts is a personal favorite of mine. I first discovered them in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Always looked forward to getting their donuts when visiting the outer banks. A nice surprise.

Great diverse options showing up with Dog Haus, Greene Turtle, Shack Shack, Chopt, Nandos, Iron Rooster, GrillMarx, etc. Go College Park!

And we haven't even started on Discovery Point yet which should land a nice restaurant hopefully.
If there is convenient parking at Chopt, I'll be there 2x a week. If not, I'll be there 2x a year.

I assume it is the eyeglass repair shop, "The Frame Mender" to the left (South) of Board and Brew looking West from Rt. 1.

On the Frame Mender's website....

COLLEGE PARK, MD
8150 Baltimore Ave., (Rte. 1)
College Park, MD 20740

Aaaah, thanks. Expanding their current place makes sense.

LV Collective's student housing will have 1,000 beds and 13,000 sf of retail space. Will open in August 2027. College Park currently has 9,000 beds, with another 1,000 newly available in August 2024. Concern that it may not be built, as there is an oversupply of such housing. Varsity apartments sold in January for $136 million. Varsity had sold four years ago for $146 million.

In the downtown the old Jason's Deli space is under construction to be a Greene Turtle sports bar. The four commercial spaces in the almost new City Hall are now occupied and open for business. Three are food, while the fourth has a small food and drink component to it.

How the owners of the CP shopping center don’t do a massive redevelopment is beyond me. A huge surface lot remaining in the most prominent intersection of downtown CP seems like a huge wasted opportunity to create a real college town center. Building out a Greene Turtle suggests that redev will not happen for a long long time. Oh well.

The shopping center was planned for redevelopment in 2012, but was to be in the final phase. I had hoped about 2028, but with the Greene Turtle and the
conversion of the Rugged Wearhouse space into two retail spaces, probably now 2035ish.

I'd love an expansion on the new development across the street with a big central plaza surrounded by shops with a brickpaved central street. Meh.
