I will be moving to the DC area in a few months, working in the Reagan building. I am married. Kids are grown...not with us. I can stomach at the most an hour commute each way. I am from SoCal and somewhat used to it.

Probably would like to buy condo (200-250K) or rent for around 1500.00 per month. Schools are not important. Restaurants are important. Not into the nightclub scene; as I am in my 40s. A cool little corner bar would be nice occasionally. My wife is Mexican if that matters....maybe a good mex restaurant-not a dealbreaker though.

I heard Rockville is an OK compromise and the real estate prices are becoming more reasonable. Any advice. I havn't ruled out VA.

Hey Echo, welcome to the DMV. I live in Bethesda and I love being able to walk outside and go to pretty much any type of restaurant I want. Rent can be kind of expensive around here. I don't think you'll be able to find a place to own in your price range, but it is very convenient. My zip is 20814 if you're searching. Good luck.

Both Rockville and Silver Spring are areas you might want to consider. Both areas are becoming more afforable. You can find a condo under 250. close to the town center (within a mile) and the metro. You can find some places in Bethesda in that price range but they will be a little farther out. You will probably have to be fairly car dependent rather than right in downtown Bethesda and walking distance to things.
