Are there any buses that go from the Chevy Chase or Silver Springs to the
NYC area? Particularly Brooklyn? How long is the ride?

You can take greyHound also their is another bus that sometimes cost 1 dollar. yes 1 dollar from dc to NY. I will get the name from my neighbor

Theres a greyhound/peterpan bus terminal in Silver Spring at the corner of Fenton Street and Sligo Ave.

Bolt Bus also. The $1 fare you see from Megabus and Bolt isn't TECHNICALLY a lie - they sell either one or a few (less than 5) seats at that price. However, most are still pretty low cost. Bolt is all new buses with Wi-Fi.
I'd stay away from the Chinatown buses. They tend to be "illegal" companies (not licensed by the DOT), with poor to non-existant maintenance, and poorly trained staff, and some of the worst accident records out there.
