Here's a question for the Washingtonians (and Virginians and Marylanders among you).
One of the greatest pulls to the DC area is the multitude of interesting jobs and places to work.
However, would you say your worklife is fulfilling in the DC area?
Granted this is open to interpretation on how you define fulfilling. I'm thinking that whatever work you do, it would be difficult to replicate the salary, the opportunities, etc. elsewhere. But, feel free to define it anyway you'd like.
I voted yes. I generally find my job tolerable & survive but I'm still DC poor even though I make quite a bit above the national median yearly salary. I plan on leaving within the year and that's the thing I most will regret leaving since I like my job, work environment and boss. Just hate everything else about the area.

I love the opportunity here. I am agree with the poster above. I am a GS-12 at age 27 making double what my father makes back in Mississippi but feel dang near poor.
There are a lot of opportunities, but based on my experiences, I would say no mine isn't at all. And I'm surprised at how many other people I've met my age who are only at their jobs (in professional services) for the paycheck and plan on moving on pretty soon. Pretty depressing.

you pay your rent and transportation.
I'd have to go with the "no". Many jobs.. it seems.. around here are draining. Money really can't buy happiness... and I work way too much and definitely don't have a "lavish" lifestyle. I would much rather live in an area, and make whatever salary I can survive off of.. not having to spend a ton of time in traffic, or with such a high demand work environment. Especially with all of the technology these days... most jobs know they can get a hold of you and you can do work at any time and any place (just about) and expect that from you.
Yes. My immediate coworkers and supervisor are all good people. I work at a that job allows me help people from all walks of life. I was just a part of something that will benefit school children. It was a long tiring day but I felt so good afterwards. We were all smiling. There are days when I'm frustrated. But those days do not compare to days when we're actually able to do some good.
Absolutely not. Plenty of 'opportunities' here but none in what I want to do... no market in DeeCee for language scholars, etymologists, writers, educators... all those 'quaint' things.
I belong in the late 19th century teaching languages with PAPER, not electronic, BOOKS in a college in a college town, not here in this insane behemoth of a metro area doing TPS reports and surrounded by 'techie' garbage all day.
