From my understanding, NA's took in AA's. Example, families escaping owners before being sold seperately and splitup, etc...By adopting AA's in, they became part of any NA nation, their rules/laws/properties/treaties/status as free-not-slave nations, etc. I know Gates mentioned that actually NA DNA in AA blood is quite low, but like adopting children in the 21st century, these tribal adoptions did make them full members.
So In my mind they are NA. And I would adore to here their stories!
I'm sorry there wasn't any widespread affinity for Blacks by Native Anericans. This is more myth than fact. Sure some tribes like the Seminoles harbored runaway slaves but other tribes like the Cherokee own slaves and refused them tribal citizenship.

it seems like more people are mixed down south
than up north, ironically. there are some blacks
with native blood but many blacks and whites
whose roots go back past emancipation have
some mixed blood somewhere in them, even if
they won't admit it.
DC Native, born and raised in the heart of DC. My dad's family seems to have come from somewhere in Kentucky. I've been told that my grandfather (or his father before him) was a slave of Sen. Henry Clay, which is presumably where we got our surname from.
My mother's side originates from New Jersey, but migrated down to King George VA at some point, so the family is scattered up and down the Nor'East Coast.
i'm not a dc native. i just
wanted to make a comment
about our common history
in america.
