Hi, we are a young couple. We are from a big city but one of us got a new job in DC. We have a tight budget of 1200 (for the DC Area as I understand) for a 2BR apartment.
We followed the rule that farther out is cheaper. Just as our first stop we visited some apartments in Frederick. We liked a few but some not so much. They weren't anything as bad as big city slums or where we come from, but they weren't exactly desirable. If that's what our budget gets us, it is what it is. We've done worse. But we were hoping someone here could recommend something better.
Not interested in downtown Frederick (we've done our whole life urban want to experience something different/peaceful) or really any other kind of downtown. Looking for more of a country location that's commutable to DC (via train to Union Station, bus) etc. than a suburban location although would be open to suburban options. Are Anne Arundel, Fairfax, Alexandria, Arlington Loudon, Manassas, Prince William or Howard County options? 90 min one way commute to DC is our preferable limit.
Any recommendations on 2BR apartments under 1200 in the MD/VA suburbs/exurbs in general? Not interested in PG County, DC, or Baltimore City, and pretty sure we're priced out of Mo Co/Fairfax/Alexandria/Arlington.
If the "ghetto" parts of Frederick are our limit we can do that. Just looking for more info.
Really not trying to go all the way out to Fredericksburg/Hagerstown but a happy medium away from the city's core.

Thanks. I posted in those as well. But I appreciate the advice.
Laurel, Germantown, Gaithersburg, any of those will are decent places to look. I basically live in DC due to late hours at work, however I have to commute via the metro in downtown Silver Spring.... It was just too much for me to live in the city.
