Yep my in laws stay west of PW parkway and things change very fast. If anyone is curious all you gotta do is take a drive out.there, go into the stores, and see how people talk, dress, and act. I think once you pass Fairfax county leaving D.C. the D.C. influence taper off tremendously. But there are some great reasons to move out there. The schools are good, housing is cheaper, people are friendly, it's diverse (but trust me there is some racial tension at certain spots), and it's easy to access DC although the commute can be long-ish.
