Has anyone biked to the Mount Vernon Trail for the fireworks? I was thinking about doing that. Is it open for bike/ped traffic?

On 295 (near PA Ave exit or further south) the cars line up and watch the fireworks, this is a old DC tradition. I also used to watch fireworks at McKinley Tech sitting on the bleachers. Don't know if either location has been scaled down or not.

I love DC, but the Independence Day Fireworks show has to be one of the biggest disappointments I have had since moving here. Other than seeing some fireworks shot off near some of the national monuments, it's a totally unimpressive show especially with this being the capital of the United States. Go once and go to the Mall where you can at least take in as much "atmosphere" as possible, then go to a suburban show, most of which are just as good or better and you will be much closer to them without dealing with a million people trying to see a crappy 20 minute fireworks show.

Yeah, that's a good idea. I did just that 19 years ago, except from a southwest location. Pretty memorable.

Yeah I agree that theyre preety unimpressive for being the nations capital. Charleston SC has the most impressive fireworks show I've ever seen. Sad a city like 1/8 our size has better fireworks.
