I've lived in Montgomery County and Prince Georges County. Folks need to stop downing PG so much (and I suspect it's because it's the "black" county smh). There are places in MoCo that I would NEVER live in, even for free (Langley Park, Takoma (not the nicer part by the metro/Silver Spring), Wheaton, etc.). Bowie, Upper Marlboro, Laurel, north College Park are pretty nice. Bowie is very upscale, and not affordable to a lot of folks. North PG isn't bad in general. South PG by the waterfront (Oxon Hill, for example) is nice.

I just had to speak up because I feel like there is constant PG bashing. I like/dislike things about both counties. I like MD, but the state taxes and some other rules/laws are annoying to deal with.

I live like two miles from the MD line, and never go there, half the time I forget there's another state besides VA nearby.

Everything in the metro area is tilting to the VA side of the Potomac, young people are all moving to Arlington, all the job growth is on that side, and it's got more diversity, at least as far as Asians and Hispanics go, than the District. Outside the Beltway Northern VA is a chain restaurant paradise that requires you to have more interest in seeing an animatronic Chuck E Cheese sing some top 10 hit from the 90s, than see a live band at the 9:30 Club. But Gaithersburg isn't exactly the Left Bank either.

Maryland spent 30 years telling businesses to go away, and they did. Montgomery County is now a suburb of Northern Virginia.

Seriously, PG has its share of issues (some would say a lion's share) but it's still a pretty nice county. Bowie, Woodmore and Mitchellville are great (those three areas I have the most experience with). Hyattsville seems to be up-and-coming.

I recall going to a friend's house in Upper Marlboro once and at the time you could not have told me it was in a county with a lot of crime (this was in like 5th grade). The houses were just as grand as you'd find in Bethesda or Potomac.

I completely agree with what you said. My family lives in PG. One is a Dermatologist the other works on Capitol Hill. People paint a broad brush about Prince George's Cty. which upsets me to no end. Now does the county have a criminal element? yes, but what county in this region doesn't. Montgomery, Fairfax, Loudoun, DC all have areas which are less desirable but people don't say "oh I would never move to Montgomery County". Woodmore is very nice btw..

People need to quit bashing PG. It is a HUGE county and has various neighborhoods and amenities. I drove through some areas in Forestville that reminded me of a little country town, then there are the mansions, split levels, condos, parks, the harobour.etc. Crime is going down. Maybe the area needs to put out a PR campaign to spread the positives.

PG County is an ok place to live. People make it seem worst then it really is.

Only certain areas have minor crime. And those are the areas closer to DC. The further out you go, the better the area becomes.
