I've been in Navy Yard for 4 years now but I'm contemplating a move to Chevy Chase or Mt. Vernon. There is a chance I'll be taking a job in the Silver Spring area which is why Chevy Chase is on my radar. Also, I'm looking to get away from the craziness Navy Yard is becoming with all the new development and the fact it's become a destination neighborhood. I was wondering how CC is? I'm a single guy and realize CC is full of families which I'm fine with. I'm interested mostly because of its proximity to MD and that it appears quiet.
Chevy Chase the DC part actually has some bars and nightlife like Comet Ping Pong which gets a lot of 20-something hipsters. It seems like there are a lot of other areas to explore that are quieter and closer to Silver Spring than Chevy Chase DC: the Maryland part of Chevy Chase, Takoma, Takoma Park, parts of Silver Spring that aren't downtown Silver Spring (very quiet in Silver Spring outside of downtown), to name a few.
Comet Ping Pong is not all what you would expect from a super fancy area like Chevy Chase. It gets pretty wild! They do music in the back and I've seen some crazy punk rock shows there.
Chevy Chase is quiet and kind of nice. Very upscale for the most part. Comet Ping Pong being a bit of an exception. I agree with Stateofnature otherwise. I spend more time in Silver Spring/Bethesda/Takoma/Takoma Park/Chevy Chase than I do downtown DC at this point. Now that I am older I appreciate it more. Though I kind of like Silver Spring and Takoma/Takoma Park more myself, it really is just a preference.
Chevy Chase is mostly families. Friendship Heights or Connecticut Ave between Van Ness and Chevy Chase Circle might meet your needs. You didn't indicate what sort of real estate you are interested in.

I'm just looking to rent. There is a place on Connecticut Ave that is going to start leasing next month I'm interested in. I'd be working in Kensington so the 6 mile commute would be nice. I'm also contemplating Silver Spring but I'm not a big fan of becoming a MD resident unless absolutely necessary. Are there a good amount of singles and restaurants in CC? I've also been contemplating Mount Vernon area of DC but that would probably lead to me to continue my somewhat partyish ways and I'm getting close to being 40 which is why I'm starting to think about CC as an option.
Good restaurant row and shopping on Connecticut Ave. south of Chevy Chase Circle.
Good amount of singles in the area too? I'm over the whole crowded neighborhood thing. I am still contemplating Mt. Vernon but CC would put me close to work in Kensington. Also, I'm assuming a more mature crowd would choose to live in CC?
