The media is going crazy due to the Cherry Blossoms coming out later this week. THEY SAY that the Cherry Blossom week is the prettiest time of year to come to DC. I strongly disagree. I think the best time to visit DC for beauty is the last week of April and the first week of May. I call it the Dogwood/Azalea season.
Late March (Cherry Blossom week) has lots of brown grass, bare trees (except for the cherry blossoms), lots of grey cold weather and rain.
Late April/Early May the leaves on the trees are a bright yellow green, the grass is green, flowers are everywhere, the dogwoods are out and the azaleas are everywhere! And the weather is warmer, sunnier and generally perfect. There is no comparison. Your thoughts?
The cherry blossom season is Washington is breathtaking and very unique. Many cities have better azalea seasons because they are warmer. This is from a real azalea fan -- I propagate azaleas as a hobby.
