Hey all. I'm moving to DC for the summer for an internship and looking for a place to stay. I'm in talks with a guy about subletting his apartment in Mt Vernon Square (corner of M & 10th). It's a second floor unit with a private parking garage and good security. I was wondering if any DC locals had any input on the safety of that area or any reservations about living there. I wouldnt be going anywhere north or east of that location really, except to hop on the 7th St metro (although I meed the orange line so I'll probably just walk to Metro center station)
I wouldn't be too worried about walking to and from the Metro at night in that location. You also could be missing out by avoiding areas north of there. You've got the U St and Shaw areas to the north which have some of the best bars, restaurants and music venues in the city.
