I know you guys have heard it several times before but my wife and I will likely be moving to DC this summer. She will be working in Arlington around the Rosslyn station, I will likely be working in DC off of the Columbia Heights station. We have already scoped out areas in DC, VA & MD suburbs including Falls Church, Springfield, Silver Spring, Tacoma Park, Hyattsville, Greenbelt, College Park, Brookland, and my cousin keeps telling me Anacostia is up and coming (5 years or so from now). Main points of focus for us will be accessibility to public transport (i.e. 1 mile or less to the the Metro), what is the "vibe" of these communities (walkable, bike able, town centers, vs you have to drive everywhere), and neighborhood amenities such as libraries, grocery stores, pharmacies, park space, etc. Our budget will likely top out at round 650K. Any insight would be much appreciated on how likely it would be to find a 2+Bed, 2+Bath townhouse or SFH in these areas or any other areas that would be worth considering. If there are other threads that have discussed this topic please let me know!

Downtown Falls Church (not the area off of 50), Downtown Silver Spring (huge area with "Silver Spring" addresses), Takoma, and Brookland are the walkable/bikeable areas. Springfield, Hyattsville, Greenbelt, and College Park are very suburban and require a car to get just about anywhere.
Old Town Alexandria, King St Stop and Braddock Rd Stop. Here is the reason why. You will have a walkable community, you will have a direct route to both Roslyn and Columbia Heights without overly burdensome transfers. This would put you on both the Yellow and Blue Line. The Yellow will take you to Columbia Heights, the Blue will take you to Arlington. It is also likely in your budget.
Avoid Anacostia. Don't listen to what you hear, east of the river is not for newcomers.
I think the commute from Brookland, Silver Spring, and Takoma to Columbia Heights would be great, but I would not recommend doing it to Arlington. Even at Roslyn. Same goes for Falls Church to Columbia Heights.
