My husband and I both currently work fulltime and our child is cared for each day by a babysitter. We have a very trustworthy person but he is 2 and a half years from being school age. What are some good options in this area ?

Thank you in advance.

The same options as in any major metro area. Many people use nannies (we did) or au pairs. Most nannies are live-out; au pairs are live-in. You can find nannies through agencies or on your own. Au pairs come from several government-approved programs, have restricted hours, and are permitted to stay only for one or sometimes two years.

There are also family day care and day care centers. Family day care is most easily found in more affordable neighborhoods, as it's often offered by immigrants or other women supplementing the family income. It can be hard to find in places like Great Falls. There are many day care centers in downtown DC; some are run by federal agencies or private firms for their employees' children. Others are franchises of national chains. There are also day care centers in the business areas of most suburbs. It depends whether you want your child to spend his day close to home or close to your workplace. If you will be attending GW, there might be some day care options on campus.

Hi this is one of my biggest concerns about moving. What is the average salary for the nannies pr week? I concerned about germs in some of the larger child care settings however a home day care could be an option. My hours at school will be somewhat irregular and it looks like afternoon or eve for some of the classes. I also need to know immunizations children need to enter school as this varies among states. Thank you
