Looking for a one bedroom in DC (NW area) or Alexandria (Old Town only) for 12 month lease. Couple, non-smokers. Near metro and $1100 or under. Please bring suggestions. Thanks.

I highly doubt you will find a one bedroom for $1100 or under in NW or Old Town. Expect to pay closer to $1200-1400 per month unless you are willing to consider other locations.

If you take out the "Old Town only" or if by "near Metro", you mean "near Metrobus", it can definitely be done in Alexandria.

There's no way you're getting all of your requirements under $1100 though.

To echo what others have said, you are going to have a real hard time finding a true one bedroom apartment for $1100/month or under in/near Old Town Alexandria or in/near (Bethesda, Silver Spring) NW DC. You probably will be able to find an efficiency or studio in that price range in downtown Silver Spring (just outside of NW DC and a place that probably meets your criteria, based on the places you mentioned) and possibly in/near Old Town Alexandria (like near the Huntington Metro Yellow Line station).

Despite what bk90 says, there are many people that love living and working in DC - my wife and I included. That being said, finding a place in NW for that price would be difficult.

This is a little outside of your search area, but a great deal and remarkably convenient:

Fort Totten Station - 300 Luxury Apartments at Fort Totten Metro (broken link)

This is spitting distance to the Fort Totten metro station, which is a safe quiet area. This is in Northeast DC, just over the line from NW. There is red, green, and yellow line access from this station, and these apartments have never been lived in...they are brand spanking new. 15 minute ride to National Airport, 18 minutes to Dupont Circle, 10 minutes to U Street, 6 minutes to Silver Spring. There are also zipcars parked at the metro.

Something to consider...

Are you limiting yourselves to those areas specifically for job reasons or lifestyle (wanting to be where the "action" is at) reasons? You don't have to live specifically in one area to get where you want or need to be. You are limiting yourselves and missing out on so many other nice areas in the DC area that'll fit your price range.

Follow everyone else's advice, and try Craig's List as well. Good luck.

Default I think we were too idealistic

If we arent going to find what we are looking for in NW DC or Old Town Alexandria, where else should we look in the city that is decently safe, $1000 1-bedroom, and has access to public transportation? One of us will be commuting out to northern va, but we need to be in the city because the other one of us won't have a car.
Thank you everyone who has responded so far! Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

I guess I have no life, but I've NEVER used "nightlife" or "culture" as a reason to live somewhere. I want quiet neighbors and no crime and I'm happy.
