I have a group of International student visiting DC tomorrow 8/19. Is there any place you can recommend I send them to buy water that will not kill their pocketbooks? It is supposed to be 97 degrees and they understandably don't want to haul bottles and bottles of water around with them. Thanks.
I imagine if they visit they want to see the main sights. Now the Mall is a bit of a dead zone for retail and gastronomy. The cafeterias in museums would be the main option, but they tend to be brutally overpriced.
The key is to get what you need north of the Mall in the business district near the Farragut Sq and McPherson square metros. There's drug stores, convenience stores and fast food places galore there.
There aren't any grocery stores really in downtown D.C., you'd have to get out into the residential areas for that or back into Arlington. There's a Walmart a few blocks NW of Union Station, which might be the cheapest option, but it'd be a long hike from there down towards the memorials.
If they are coming from somewhere and staying in a hotel the best is to buy a case of water and put it in the room fridge. Otherwise, most places mark up water terribly
It is a day trip from Rehoboth Beach by bus. I am concerned that they become dehydrated and thought I would ask as I was not aware of anything to tell them.
I told then not to toss their bottles and refill at water fountains. Thanks
Museums have water fountains.
