Are there any walkable areas of DC that would be commutable and family friendly? Was thinking of Capitol Hill. How are the middle school and high schools, charter school options? Budget would be 3k a month.

Your budget unfortunately isn't sufficient for DC unless a 2 bedroom option works for you. I would recommend instead Alexandria VA, specifically the Old Town-Del Ray neighborhoods which offer walkability to stores/restaurants and family-friendly vibes. The schools are decent if parentally involved. It's also an easy commute across the bridge to Andrews AFB.

Capitol Hill will serve you well. Great neighborhood, superior public schools, wonderful restaurant scene, and close to your work. At the end the day you'll really be in Washington, not some pretend city.

And where pray tell are they going to find a decent and reasonably safe three bedroom home/apartment for under $2000 a month?

They said 3k, and they didn't say how many bedrooms.

They could live in Virginia and settle for second best.

No, they didn't however most "families" I'm aware of aren't looking for two bedrooms.

LOL, you're not biased at all are you? Someone should probably introduce you to the concept of perspective.

Except the "families" with one child, or two of similar age.

2 bedroom would be suffice if that’s our only option to live in the city. How are the schools for jr. high and high school?
