Going to Middle River Md. which looks like it's about 20 miles n.e. of Baltimore according to google maps. What will traffic be like then and also for the way home to the Clarendon area? Google maps says it's about a 2 or 2 1/2 hour drive--or is it more??

When would you be going? Typically, it takes me about an hour to get from Alexandria to the toll plaza in Baltimore. During rush hour (the few times I did it), it took me about 1.5-2 hours. Based on that, I'd say Google Maps seems fairly accurate, unless there's something between Baltimore and Middle River I don't know about.
Often, instead of the Beltway, I'd get myself to 295 and take that up to Baltimore (or to the north side of 495). Check out traffic reports when you want to leave, and go from there.
