Sacramento's midtown is vibrant like Portland, but the vibrant blocks are fewer and smaller overall. Sacramento's downtown is becoming more vibrant, but again at least a decade behind Seattle and Portland.

The City of Sacramento proper and all it's neighborhoods are very open minded.

I dont want you to sell this picture perfect dream your telling about Sacramento.. The TRUTH is it does have nice overall
weather, except for summer that gets 95 to 100 frequently. The Cons are the crime rate, extremely ghetto trashy people, and excess amount of trashy neighborhoods.. I was just in Seattle,WA way more jobs and career options than Sacramento any day of the week.

Yes, but some of the areas around Sacramento are pretty nice. If you start to get up into the foothills around Shingle Springs it's attractive enough, and -- I'll be honest here -- I've always been partial to the little towns like Esparto that huddle at the foot of the coast ranges. Nobody ever said someone had to always live right downtown in these places.

Where should Harrier go?

He can't move to Seattle or Boise, because it would be exactly the same.

Harrier should try Barstow, CA; then give CD a complete report.

So the city has lots of violent crime? I think I actually would need to be in the city, hence the lack of car and need for acceptance of diversity.

What does "diversity" mean to you.

If it is lots of non-white people, you might like the Yakima Valley.

Or you could move to Columbia City in Seattle.

It is right on the light rail and it was once called the most diverse neighborhood in the United States.
