I remember the summer of 1993 and that was a chilly summer, I remember it was rare for us to get to the 80's that summer, I also remember the previous winter being a cold, snowy one, I also remember summer of 1998, 2006 and 2007 being severely hot ones with a couple days in the 110's in 1998 and 2006

Well as an indication of how warm it's been, the weather guy on Q13 the other night said we have already had as many days above 80 degrees as we usually average in an entire year- and of course we still have August and September to go for potential summer weather, so this will likely end up being one of the warmest summers on record here.

That's pretty mild for a lot of the state.

I'm not trying to mock the OP by any means, but I think it's simply human nature to overestimate the historical nature of something in the moment. What we need to keep in mind is that this is an El Nino year, and during El Nino years we get blocking highs over the PNW that tend to result in very dry, very sunny, fairly warm weather. It's less unusual than it is cyclical, and every couple of years we seem to see one extreme or the other largely due to these Pacific Ocean water temperature shifts.
Agreed. No mocking here, either. I'm too lazy to pull climate data, though as I recall it exists on various weather data aggregation sites. I planned out a trip in 2010 and pulled a lot of average YoY data for certain cities in the southern U.S. to figure out what clothes to pack (yeah, I'm a data nerd).

"Subjectively," it's been a hot summer and we had a spell recently of what, more than two weeks without rain? My medium haired cats were stressed and took to hiding in the laundry room, coolest in the house.

And we had a wet spring, witness that godawful tragic slide in Oso not too many months ago when the slope just could not hold any more water. RIP.

Conversely, I remember a month or more stretch in the dead of winter last c. 7 years when there were zero...zero...days of sunshine. 100% overcast and rain. THAT is the point at which I call in sick for two days and fly to Ontario (airport) to see how things are looking in the Los Angeles area. Works wonders for my attitude.

Yeah, but isn't it one of the hottest summers we've had in the PNW?

Where was that at? Seattle's warmest temperature all time record is only 103 IIFC.

I was at Fort Lewis in August 1998 training in the field. It was 106 at least down this way. Absolutely miserable week.

And yep, 06 and 07 were hot as you-know-what

LOL! Once again, someone who doesn't realize that there is life outside of Seattle.
