I enjoyed San Juan Distillery on San Juan Island: San Juan Island Distillery

Also, Lime Kiln lighthouse on San Juan Island is a nice place for whale watching.

Whale Museum in Friday Harbor/San Juan Island: The Whale Museum | Friday Harbor, Washington. Couple that with actual Orca watching off the west side of San Juan Island.

Lopez Island for a whole other kind of island experience: laid-back, lots of open space, hikes galore.

We love the big beach there on the west side of the island, I think it's called South Beach? It has great tidepooling to the far right. It's a great place to watch the seals, too. Also, we hiked to a place called Eagle Cove (and yes, you will see tons of bald eagles flying overhead!). It's a nice hike, and tidepooling is good as well.

A scenic drive around the island, Lime Kiln State Park (although we've never seen a whale there). I also love to take orca watching tours through Western Prince, which is based in Friday Harbor. I go 1-2x a year, we've seen orcas every time.

The ferry ride alone is gorgeous.

If you're feeling brave you could take a seaplane from Seattle to San Juan Island.

Oh and the bakery near downtown has the best cookies in the world!!

Enjoy!

Lots to do on Orcas. Drive to the top of Mount Constitution to see the view all over the islands and into Canada. Swim at Cascade Lake there, in the park. Explore the town of East Sound; shops, coffeeshops, restaurants, a quaint inn. Visit the Historical Society, for a history of early settlement of the island by Swedes, Yugoslav imported labor, the lime kilns and early island economy.

Visit Turtlehead Farm Preserve, for walking/hiking in old growth forest and through meadows full of wildlife, and to see some of the original structures built by the afore-mentioned early immigrants. Horseback riding is available there, as well. Ride to the top of Turtleback Mountain for more views. Dinner at Rosario Resort. Boating is available at Rosario's, too. Google it. You can rent a cabin in the forest at Turtlehead Farm, for an overnight. The property borders on a beach that's an easy hike down to.

If you just have a little time, Guemes Island (often overlooked) is the closest San Juan Island to Anacortes. Here is a good link: Things to Do - Anderson's General Store & Channelside Cafe
